Font - Raged quit an interview. So this was several years ago but it still lives rent free in my head. I wanna know what all of you guys think. I had worked in a group home for at risk youth. I had 5+ years at one location and in that field, you're considered a veteran staff. I moved from Florida all the way up to Vermont. I was still certified in cpr and all that jazz.

Font - I applied to another group home here in Vermont. I thought me being a veteran staff, they would be begging me to come work there. I showed up and it was a group interview. It was 8-10 total people. Huge red flag right there.

Font - They drop this little nugget on us interview/tour halfway thru the around facilities. Apparently everyweek youde work Wednesday 2pm to 10pm, Thursday 2-10 but then Friday we are to work 2 to 10pm,, then CLOCK OUT but remain on site and sleep there, then clock in at 8am Saturday morning and work almost a double shift and leave at 10pm.

Font - What the actual right? I verified during the interview that the 10pm to 8am off clock is unpaid, but If a kid wakes up and becomes we have to intervene, and we get paid just for the 10 or 15 minutes or however long the tantrum is.

Font - I said rigt there that I'm not staying there for 32 hours in a row especially if you're only paying me for 22 of those hours which is illegal I walked out and 3 people followed me, but half the people stayed after I pointed out they are breaking the law and you.

Human body - Everyone's thoughts? Oh, and this was all for practically min wage which was around 10 bucks an hour 7-8 years ago

Font - Kicky92 22 hr. ago Yeah I'd have walked away too. If they want you to be on call, they have to pay you to be on call. 786 Reply Share

Font - throwawaybusdude OP. 20 hr. ago At that point it's not on call. Legally, on call is that you're allowed to be at home or doing errands or whatever you want. When they restrict you to not leave the work site, that's absolutely working. Even if your duties are nothing but stand there or sleep here, it's still a duty which you need to be paid atleast min wage for.

Font - And I'm not just spouting nonsense. I have a degree in criminal justice and I've been the president of a union before so I'm very familiar with labor boards and laws and whatnot. They were 100 percent breaking the law and nobody gave a O 549 Reply Share

Font - i just repeated everything she told me so maybe she could hear how redic it sounds. "so im being paid $3 over min wage right? and i work 8 hours, clock out, then sit on site for 16 hours unpaid, unable to leave, then clock back in when in the morning right? and then i just do that for a full work week?"

Font - fivenightrental • 20 hr. ago Yup. I had a very similar experience, but they paid "half time" for you to sleep there on shift. I wasn't told about it until after I was hired and put on the schedule that I'd only be getting half time for it. Only did it once and ended up quitting within the next week due a whole bunch of other issues. If they had told me during the interview I would have never accepted the job. I'd rather sleep at home for zero dollars.
